Basic Adrenal Support for EVERYONE who is Hypothyroid
Since so many of us who are hypo also have some degree of adrenal fatigue ... and I've posted this list so many times! ;-) ... here it is for easy reference. These recommendations are good for all of us, whether our adrenals seem to be fine or not. And since I've seen so many people crash on Armour without doing anything for their adrenals, I WILL bug you about this unless you get a saliva test that says your adrenals are doing GREAT!
Much of this information, and more, may be found at Dr. Lam's website, but I have made adaptations based on our experience and further reading. I suggest reading his info on adrenal fatigue! He goes into much more depth than I have here, and has additional points in his protocol that may be helpful to you.
- unrefined sea salt, 1/4-1/2 teaspoon in liquid morning and night--more if needed
- vitamin C to bowel tolerance
- B-complex (I take a "50" with each meal)
- Eat something with protein every 2-3 hours
- Drink plenty of good water--no fluoride or chlorine
- mild exercise, up to 20 minutes daily, as tolerated (doesn't cause a
- worsening of symptoms during or within 24 hours after)
- be in bed by 10PM if at all possible
- sleep as long as you can--9AM would be good
- lay down for 15 minutes a few times during the day
- remove any stressors that you can, and reframe those you can't remove so that you no longer perceive them as stressful (tough, but doable ... to some extent, anyway! )
IF you are on HC (hydrocortisone) or Isocort, some kind of medical alert jewelry is a REALLY GOOD idea--if you're in an accident or suddenly taken ill, you'll need the medical professionals to know that you need extra HC immediately.
